Tamil version of MS-Office planned for Schools

Tamil Nadu School Education Department has approached the Microsoft company, demanding it to create MS-office software in Tamil language, said T Udhayachandran, secretary of School Education Department.

At the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), the secretary said that the department had made the negotiation with Microsoft for MS-Office in Tamil and an exclusive search engine in the language as part of the efforts to promote internet-based development of education.

“In a view to bring MS-Office word in Tamil, we have given an assurance that the department was ready to buy five lakh laptops from the company in exchange for the software. With this, school children can easily learn the software in their mother tongue. We hope that the deal would be finalised soon as preliminary initiative has been successful,” Udhayachandran added.
